When a Hotel Room Is Inadequate

The average hotel room is fine for two people. There are either two beds or one large one, a small table with two chairs, a television set, and a private bathroom. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, this option is suitable. However, this is not an ideal set up for a family on vacation or a professional who will be working on a long-term project. Nerves will fray, stress will rise, and not much work will get done.

Spacious Accommodations

Adjoining rooms can be arranged. That provides more sleeping area, but there is still no space for a family to relax. Another option is Apartment Hotel. These accommodations have space and amenities that allow a family or traveling professional to feel at home and unwind at the end of the day.

Some may have balconies, washers and dryers, or a loft bedroom space. There are separate rooms so the family can gather in the living space, for example, to plan activities for the next day. A kitchenette with a refrigerator and a microwave makes it possible to save money on meals. Eating out for three meals each day can be expensive for a family, and it can get old for a professional who is in the same area for three to six months.

Costs

The cost of staying in an apartment hotel is less than people expect. Once the cost of two regular hotel rooms, eating out for every meal, and travel to and from attractions are totaled, an apartment setting is not much more money. Discounts are available as well to save even more money. There is an apartment hotel in Melbourne, for example, that offers discounts and bonuses when apartments are booked directly with the hotel.

Most of these hotels are centrally located and close to public transportation. Grocery stores are typically nearby so it is easy to pick up some yogurt or cereal for breakfast, favorite snacks, simple lunch ingredients, and preferred drinks. The family is happy, and there is more money to spend on attractions and souvenirs. Compare all available options before booking cramped accommodations.

Other Options

Camping or renting a recreational vehicle can also be an alternative to a regular hotel room. That will not appeal to every family, but it does increase the freedom and flexibility to change plans, visit more than one area, and take the family dog or cat along. Decide where the destination will be and explore the options in that immediate area.
